Welcome to our wrap up for May 2022! Thank you so much for joining us today. If you have only recently started following the blog, we are very happy to meet you. 🙂

Kriti’s Month

Ever since I started tracking how much I read, I don’t remember a time when I have completed this many books in a month. I am sure there were periods in my life like during exam months, especially when I was preparing for competitive exams, the time I was defending my thesis, when I read little but there is no easy way to know. As a get older though, wrap ups like this one offer a great opportunity to be kind to myself and learn to rejoice in whatever I read, whenever I get a chance to read.

So if you ever feel like you are not reading enough, know that it is situational. That there is nothing wrong with how you read, you haven’t forgotten how you read or lost momentum of your speed of reading – maybe what you need most right now is to do something else, or as I found out in my case, to spend some more time reflecting and working on myself. It’s months like these that help us rediscover the joy of reading.

Total books read this month: 3 (like I said, it’s a record 😉 )
Total TBR: 248 (May 1) -> 258 (Jun 1)

  • Midnight Dunes by Laura Griffin was a nice suspense romance. It was good company. I also connected with the author and it meant a lot to me to host someone through Berkley. If you are a book blogger, they do blog tours! (Goodreads)
  • Within: Short Stories for the Evolving Multicultural Woman by Aditi Wardhan Singh was a wonderful collection of stories that reminded me of India, my childhood, everyday life and much more. I read it in a day and decided to reach out the author and host her for an interview. That will be coming along with the review on June 16th. (Goodreads)
  • The second half of this month started with me struggling to pick up any book. Sofi and the Bone Song by Adrienne Tooley is a YA Fantasy about music and magic. I tried out (and loved) audio journalling about this book. I sometimes read it aloud to myself and reflected throughout! It was a lot of fun and I hope to transcript my notes at some point. I also connected with the author to learn more about her work. Looking forward to sharing that in the future! (Goodreads)

I am continuing to make progress on: Tell Me an Ending by Jo Harkins (I am about 50%) and Surviving Storms: Finding the Strength to Meet Adversity by Mark Nepo. The latter has wonderful questions to reflect upon and the former is an interesting scifi about recovering erased memories.

I found time to write about the following books on the blog in May:

Ariel’s Selection for May

Notes and Summary:

May went by like a blur, and I’ve been reading less but taking my time enjoying the books I am reading without feeling too much pressure. I’ve been prioritizing the quality of reads rather than quantity, and since I’ve been going through The Dandelion Dynasty, I’ve found that I am enjoying the long and slow pace of large scale epic fantasy these days.

Top Three Genres: Fantasy, Science Fiction, Dystopian
Top three book moods: Reflective, Emotional, Dark
Top book plot pace: medium
Most common book size: 300-499 pages

Number of Books: 9

Bookish Highlights of the Month:

Five-Star of the Month: The Wall of Storms
Most Anticipated: The Hacienda
