Holding Up the Sky by Rebecca Alasdair

In this novel, a closeted Australian teenager named Carter Cantwell leads a double life. To the outside world, he appears as an overachieving brainiac and school captain, but internally he is an anxious mess, still grappling with grief and pretending to have it all together. Everything changes when he meets Remy, a bold and charismatic person who disrupts Carter’s carefully constructed façade. As Carter navigates the pressures of school, family troubles, and his growing feelings for Remy, he starts to unravel. With his secrets coming to light and his carefully constructed life falling apart, Carter is faced with a difficult choice: succumb to his inner demons or fight for the unexpected future he desires. This is a story about love, self-discovery, and finding one’s way back from darkness.

Until September by Harker Jones

Historical Fiction | Romance | Goodreads

Until September is a poignant tale set in the 1950s-1960s, following Kyle Ryan Quinn and his friends on an island each summer. Amidst secrets and tragedy, Kyle’s encounter with bookish Jack Averill and other romantic pursuits leads to heart-wrenching choices that shape their lives forever.

Why I want to read this – Another story that appeals to me! Harker chose a beautiful cover for this book and I am sure it has much to offer.

The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

Historical Fiction | Goodreads

The Mercies is a gripping historical novel set in 17th century Norway. After a devastating storm claims the lives of all the men in a coastal village, two women, Maren and Ursa, struggle to survive amidst accusations of witchcraft. When a menacing outsider, Absalom Cornet, arrives with his wife, Ursa, tensions escalate as he sees the independent women of Vardø as a threat. As Maren and Ursa form a surprising bond, they face the oppressive rule of Absalom and the impending danger to their community. Inspired by true events, this feminist tale explores themes of love, evil, and obsession on the fringes of civilization.

Why I want to read this – Historical fiction is reason enough. Set in Norway – I don’t know much about it. I find the premise promising and Erynn also wants to read this one.

Of course, these books represent only a fraction of the diverse and empowering literature that celebrates love, resilience, and the importance of representation. 🌈📚
