Welcome to the third Backlist Bingo 2024 Check in! We are enjoying working through our backlist and let’s see how much progress we made in March. Like last time, take a look at what other participants have been reading and which year of books we have been gravitating to as a community.

Ariel’s Backlist Bingo Update

Prompt: More Than 400 Pages
Book Name:  The Surviving Sky by Kritika H. Rao | Goodreads
Quick review: This pick was Kriti’s and my buddy read for the month, and it had been on our radar since last year. It was an exciting read filled with exciting twists and turns, along with compelling characters. This book was definitely one of my top reads of the month!

Prompt: An Audiobook/Ebook
Book Name: Waiting ‘Til the Midnight Hour by Piniel E. Joseph | Goodreads
Quick review: Also my non-fiction feature for the month, Waiting ‘Til the Midnight Hour highlights the modern history and events of the Black Power movement as a whole, creating a helpful context as I read other essays by activists like Angela Y. Davis. An important read, and I found it to be a good audiobook listen!

Prompt: A Novella
Book Name: After the Dragons by Cynthia Zhang | Goodreads
Quick review: As a fan of dragons, I knew this was a must read for me. Knowing it was a short novella that I could read anytime almost meant that it most often was overlooked. This challenge was perfect in having me read this– and I’m so very glad I did. It’s a sad and thoughtful exploration of climate change in an urban fantasy world where dragons are common local fauna. It’s definitely worth the read!

Kriti’s Backlist Bingo Update

Though I wanted to read more than one, that is all I could tackle from my indie backlist this month.

Prompt: Non-Fiction
Book Name: Kneading Journalism: Essays on baking bread and breaking down the news by Tony Ganzer | Goodreads
Quick review: As the name suggests, this book is a collection of essays about journalism, how perception towards journalists have changed over the years with politics and new technologies. Tony Ganzer asks thought provoking questions and brings the conversation about journalism to the dining table with some bread recipes to try out! I loved how he shared historical events from around the world and provided a regional bread recipe from there.
