The countdown has begun for the last one of school. Then, the Winter 2018 term will officially be over and the academic year of 2017–2018 will come to an end for me. I am sure I will write a reflective post on it later (it is a bit early to celebrate since many deadlines are around the corner), but for now I wanted to find some time today in my hectic schedule of studying, working and researching for articles for my publication and allow myself to take a deep breath.
There will always be a lot to be done.
There will always be a mental list of tasks to complete and milestones to reach.
But as the last stretch begins, it is important to start this stretch with a refreshing look.
It is important to recognize that the journey to this point has been amazing, full of learning, and opportunities picked along the path and know that after another month of hard work, with the coming of Spring and Summer, the tasks would be set by me, not by my courses.
I do not know whether it is dawn or dusk in this picture, but it gives me peace. The reflection in the lake reminds me that there are two sides of things and to get a holistic view of the situation, I have to look at both sides. This explains the mixed feeling I have right now about this term coming to a close — I am sad it is almost over (I feel I grew so much and have so much more to learn from the peers I have met and the professors I have) and at the same time, I am happy that after this, for the first time in four years, I will honestly have a Spring/Summer when I would not be working on a thesis or on course work. I am looking forward to that freedom.
There are many on this journey alongside me. We are all on our way to slightly different destinations but we are sailing together. We will find our way together and help each other, wherever we can.
