Throwback from Previous Years on the Blog

2023: This month had too many great books to choose from! I am going to have to go with The Way I Am Now by Amber Smith because I rarely read and adore YA novels. Review | Goodreads

2022: The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean was a fantastic discussion with SK. I am looking forward to rereading that book again once I am a mom. Review | Goodreads

2021: One of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors: The Mystery of Mrs Christie by Marie Benedict was thought provoking and engrossing. Review | Goodreads

2020: The Forgotten Daughter by Joanna Goodman is the story of two daughters who were forgotten or not made a priority for reasons deeply rooted in politics and the social institution. It taught me a lot about Canadian history. Review | Goodreads

2019: The very first book discussion with Ariel deserves another highlight. The Farm by Joanne Ramos. Review | Goodreads

Book Awards

In 2025, monthly wrap ups will be changing and I will be incorporating updates from awards and communities I follow. Here’s a flavour:

Indie Inked Awards co-hosted by WriteHive staff, Inked in Gray, and Indie Story Geek are accepting nominations for their third year! Books by marginalized authors, self-published books, and books by small presses often get overlooked. The Indie Ink Awards is a unique event that brings together the writing community to celebrate books that have made an impact on us. This is our way of highlighting the future we want to see in books–by uplifting those that shine. Voting will begin December 15th. Learn more on this page about the timeline, how you can participate and nominate books.

Small Spec Book Awards: A brand new addition to the indie awards world, the mission of the Small Spec Book Awards is to recognize and promote independent and small press authors writing exceptional speculative fiction. Also in the nominations phase till January 31, 2025 and gathering readers and influencers along the way, check out this page to learn how you can support the awards.

Giller Prize 2024 On Nov 18th, Held by Anne Michaels (Goodreads) was announced as the winner. Read about all the shortlisted books here.
