My Thoughts on New Ways to Think and Grow Rich
Based on the 1937 bestseller, Think and Grow Rich, Michelle Nassar’s New Ways to Think and Grow Rich is a quick read, taking concepts from the well known book and condensing them into easy to digest chapters. I liked how each chapter starts with a quote from Napoleon Hill’s classic. I hadn’t given any thought to how people think about getting rich and it was very interesting to see words from almost a century ago still meaningful and applicable today.
This book is a concise work with to-the-point explanation of concepts. Each of them has been thoroughly explored in books and research and the literature out there could have been referred to for strengthening the concepts and for recommending further reading, such as Carol Dweck’s Mindset. I personally would have liked to spend more time with the concepts, doing the exercises as part of the chapters.
This book offered an interesting guide to creating a relationship with money. I had not expected such a personal and philosophical approach. Days later, I still find myself thinking about the concepts covered in this book. New Ways to Think and Grow Rich would be a good starting point in thinking about getting rich, while also sharing strategies that can be applied to other aspects of life. It is easy to read and I think would be accessible to everyone.
Let’s welcome Michelle and learn more from her about the book and her work!

What inspired you to write New Ways to Think and Grow Rich?
Two years ago, I was searching online for books on finance and reviews for Think and Grow Rich came up. All the reviews were very favourable and the constructive feedback was that the book could have been shorter, some references were outdated and some readers would like a modern version. I read Think and Grow Rich years ago and decided to give it another read. While reading it again, I could see some areas that could be more relatable if they were updated. Those readers’ comments inspired me to write New Ways to Think and Grow Rich. Although my clients are executives, I wanted to write this book to share my expertise as an executive coach and help anyone at any stage in their personal and professional life to become more successful.
How long did it take you to write this book, from the first idea to the last edit?
I wanted my book to follow a pattern and flow that would be easy to understand yet have a personal feel to it. I spent a few weeks thinking about how I would structure the book and decided that I would have to #1 determine an easy way to introduce Think and Grow Rich to my readers #2 determine which concepts from it I want to focus on in my book. I spent a few weeks finding quotes from Napoleon Hill’s book that resonated most with me and then another month to research more information and other experts. At that point, I had a solid vision of my book and began to write. During the editing process I had to work on adding more of my insights by expanding on some of the concepts and narrowing down the number of Napoleon Hill quotes to only1 to 2 per chapter. All in all it took me about 6 months to complete.
Who would enjoy reading your book?Â
My book appeals to anyone who is:
- Curious about making more money
- Likes self-help books
- Professionals who want to gain a competitive edge
- Looking for career inspiration and guidance
- Likes to learn new things
What does executive coaching mean? Apart from wealth-generation, what other concepts does it touch on?
Executive coaching is a thought-provoking and creative process that helps people (typically executives) to gain self-awareness so they can build and enhance a variety of leadership skills and become more successful. There are two types of leadership.1. Self-directed leadership, looks at how you lead yourself to become successful. 2. Leading people and/or a company, looks at how you create an optimal working environment that produces excellence. My executive coaching sessions focus on these leadership skills: negotiation, decision-making, communication, personal branding and influencing.
When did you first come across Napoleon Hill’s classic? What did you think of it when you read it?
I heard about Napoleon Hill many years ago but didn’t read Think and Grow Rich until 5 years ago. His approach and style was new to me, which is something I really enjoyed because it challenged some of my ideas and helped me to gain new perspectives. I understand why it is still a best-seller!
Of the seven concepts that you outlined in New Ways to Think and Grow Rich, which one do you find clients struggling with the most?
Self-awareness is definitely the area that my clients experience the most growth. It is not always easy to change your inaccurate narrative in order to see yourself through a new (accurate) lens. I customize each session to create a way for my clients to gain more self-awareness and help them to build on successes and make improvements in critical areas.
Which one is the easiest to embrace in your experience?
In my experience, desire is the easiest to embrace because we all have desire and on some level. It is a natural aspect of life so there exists a basic baseline for people to be able to learn how to build on, intensify and ultimately achieve the object of desire.
How do you envision your book supporting readers in their wealth journey?
I envision my book supporting readers in their wealth journey by giving them a holistic approach to understand how they can operate in ways that can lead to wealth or what they are doing now that is blocking their financial success. These ideas can help them to gain accountability, motivation and new ways to build a positive and productive relationship with their money using the step-by step plan.
Do you have a favourite quote or chapter in the book that you find yourself going back to?
I keep going back to the chapter on Self-Confidence because it is universally something that everyone struggles with on some level – including my clients who are some of the most successful people. I deliberately wrote this chapter in a simple, relatable and light-hearted way in order to demonstrate that self-confidence is not complicated. It is simply a belief in yourself. From all the lessons and examples I share in my book, I think the biggest take-away is to have self-confidence. If you work on that, then everything else falls into place and you can achieve whatever you desire.
What are some books you would recommend people to dive into after reading New Ways to Think and Grow Rich?
I suggest reading the classic, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill as it offers more concepts and examples, and The Rules of Life by Richard Templar which shares a code for living a more successful life.
If you could give a shout out to someone(s) who has helped in your author journey, please feel free to mention them below!
In Gr. 8 I wrote a poem on Remembrance Day and my teacher, Miss Miller submitted it to the Children’s Literary Guild contest. I was one of the winners and it was published! I’ll never forget the excitement I felt to see my words in a book knowing that it would be read by many people.I actually memorized my poem and still think of it on Remembrance Day. Miss Miller was instrumental in building my confidence as a writer and creating my first opportunity to share it with others in a publication.
Thank you so much for your time! 🙂
