Welcome friend! It’s already August and almost time for the summer season to come to a close. What’s your July reading been like? Read on for ours!
Buddy Read of the Month
We’ve been in the mood for a psychological thriller, and The Dream Hotel was exactly that– equal parts horrifying and thought provoking. The First Thousand Trees was a poignant conclusion to a novella trilogy we absolutely loved. We can’t wait to discuss them on the blog! – Ariel, Kriti.

The First Thousand Trees by Premee Mohamed | Goodreads
A highly anticipated conclusion to a beautiful post-apocalyptic novella trilogy, I loved this buddy read journey as a whole! This book in particular was difficult to put down.

The Lord of Ruin by K.M. Enright | Goodreads
Book two in a lush and dark fantasy full of political intrigue, I loved the Filipino folklore elements as well as the vampire vibes. The character development was superb, and I’m excited for book three!
Game

Two Point Museum– A super fun management game in a silly original world where man “eating” plants are part of the interactive charm of a museum, it’s been a fun way to unwind on the weekends and feel quite accomplished with my little museums I’ve built!

The Names by Florence Knapp | Goodreads
How does a name change the course of life? In The Names, three lifetimes are offered. Cora names her son Bear, Julian or Gordon, and over the course of decades, seven years apart, I got to read about how this family’s life shaped. I savoured this one. Read about a year one day at a time and journalled so much. I am excited to dedicate a week to this book on the blog. This debut novel is fantastic.

After the Rain: Gentle Reminders for Healing, Courage, and Self-Love by Alexandra Elle | Goodreads
I recently joined InsightTimer and I love when I discover books at unrelated places. With chapters on self-love, acceptance, forgiveness and much more, After the Rain is the author’s journey in healing. It is well written and many times, I found myself in her shoes and took inspiration from her. Though I finished this book, I am not done with it. I am not sure how I would even review this on the blog.
