Hi there! Thanks for visiting Armed with A Book. If you are here as an author, this page is for you. Use the form at the end of the page to contact me but be sure to read all the information in between.
If you are not an author but a reader of this blog or curious about me, head to this page.
Review Request Status: Open.
Due to recent life changes, I am slower at reviewing form submissions and it may take a few months for me to get back to you.
Hi there! Thank you for visiting my reviewer page. 🙂 I read because I believe every book has something to offer, lessons that I can take away from the characters’ experiences, whether it is by relating it to my own previous experiences or gain new insights.
Currently, I read about 8-12 books a month in a variety of formats, many of them review copies. I am part of Orbit, St Martin’s Press, Penguin Random House, Tor, Macmillan & Simon and Schuster’s reviewer/influencer programs. I extensively review advanced copies for all of these publishers as well as indie and small press authors.

Book Review Policy & Request Process
If you are an author, looking to get your book reviewed, here is everything you need to know:
I view all my interactions with authors about their books as a relationship. If you are new to reaching out to reviewers, please read my article about book blogger-author relationships.
Everybody wants their work to be liked. However, that is not always possible. Sometimes, our work does not resonate with others. Keeping that in mind, please note that by approaching me for a review, you are agreeing to receive an honest review. I reserve the right to decide whether I will review the book on my blog or just post to Goodreads. I might reach out to you about an author interview. I do not post to retail sites. I post reviews to Goodreads and Indie Story Geek (a site dedicated to small press, self-published books – you are welcome to add yours there if you are an indie author!).
Receiving a free copy of the book does not equate to a glowing review, and if that is your expectation, I am not the right reviewer for you. I appreciate having the opportunity to choose books I want to review and do not want to give any false hope that receiving a free copy of the book guarantees a review.
- Which genres do you review? Or how do I know that you are likely to review my book?
My interests vary from time to time. Please take a look at my Goodreads profile first, to get a better idea of the books I am interested in. You can take a look at my Book Review Index for books and genres I have reviewed on this blog.
- When can I expect to hear from you?
If I am interested in your request and/or collaboration ideas, I will email you back within a few weeks.
- Is there a cost/fee to get a book reviewed by you or for collaborations on the blog, such as guest posting, cover reveal and book excerpts?
All collaborations on the blog and reviewing are free of charge. Note that if I accept your review request, you have to provide me with a complimentary copy of the book.
Authors and collaborators are encouraged to share the published posts where they are featured with their audience, such as through social media, adding a link to your website, or through a newsletter – however it works for you.
Collaborations work best when we both are spreading the word. Successful collaborations are ones I’m more likely to want to work with again in the future.
- Do you accept self-published books?
Yes.
- What is your policy on book series?
I’m open to reviewing book series, but I generally prefer starting with the first book to provide a comprehensive understanding of the series. If you have the first book available, feel free to submit it for consideration.
If you have written a series with standalone novels, feel free to submit any of them for review.
- Do you have a rating system, and what factors influence your ratings?
I love reflecting on reading and my reviews generally touch on eight aspects of the book: cover, cast, world-building, immersion, emotional response, thought-provoking and storytelling. You can read details about these in my article, How was the book?
Star ratings do not summarize my experience with a book and hence, I do not rate books that way.
- How long will it take you to review my book?
Honestly, there is no way to know! Reading and reviewing is a hobby and I pick up books based on my mood.
- Can I gift you a digital copy of my book through Amazon, iBooks or other stores?
I am based in Canada and that is reflected by each of my retail accounts. If you are not based in Canada and would like to gift me a digital copy of your book, unfortunately, due to copyright laws, I would not be able to receive it. In this case, there are two options:
- please consider sending a physical copy of the book or
- see the next question for file formats. I do not share the digital file that you send to me with anyone.
Thank you for your kind consideration.
- What digital format do you read in?
I prefer the epub format to read on my iPad’s Kindle app. PDF works too. I do not share the digital file that you send to me with anyone. At the end of my reviews, I mention that I received a complimentary copy of the book.
Note that starting August 2022, Amazon has discontinued mobi format files to be sent to Kindle. Read more here.
- Do you review audiobooks?
Yes! I am an avid listener of audiobooks. If you can offer a Spotify code, I would be happy to listen to your book there and review it on that platform. To help me get all the names and places right (particularly in SFF, pronunciations aren’t always how I think the word would be spelled out), I ask that you provide a digital copy of the book along with the audiobook code.
Mention in your note to me if this is something you are interested in.
- Will you let me know once you have read my book?
I post reviews to Goodreads after I read the book. If I post the review to my blog or want to host you for an author interview, I will reach out to you via email.
- What if you don’t like my book?
In the chance that I do not end up engaging with the book as much as I wanted to or you expected, know that my review will not be degrading or attack you as an author in any manner. There are books that I have not rated very high and yet explored in detail. See example here. However, please note again I reserve the right to decide whether I will review the book on my blog or just post to Goodreads.
