Buddy Read of the Month

The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri | Goodreads
We found ourselves interested in the fairy-tale premise of The Isle in the Silver Sea, out in October. We don’t often read long books like this one, and we’re still reading it as this update comes out! – Ariel, Kriti.

A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna | Goodreads
An extremely cozy and witchy book by the author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, this was a highly anticipated read, and it ended up being a favorite of mine!

The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami | Goodreads
Kriti and I started this buddy read in July and finished it in August. A book I’m still thinking about weeks after finishing, this haunting near-future dystopia was extremely thought provoking!
Game

Tiny Bookshop – This bookish game I’ve had on my wishlist for awhile, and when it was released this month I had to get it immediately! An extremely cozy game where you play as a bookseller in a quaint town and recommend books based on taste as well as help the local townsfolk with their own life adventures.

Favorite read

Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy | Goodreads
It took me three months to read this – what with library holds and the alignment between my moods and the atmosphere of this book. But I kept returning, every opportunity I got. This is the story about the love between parents and children, wildlife and humans. It’s eerie, sad, beautiful and haunting. I loved it. Looking forward to writing about it!
Noteworthy

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig | Goodreads
So good that I read it in 3 days and posted my review right away. It is a book for the reader who wants to go places and try out different lives (or books) but it is also a perfect book for anyone who loves their stories to give them things to think about.
Anime

Solo Levelling
My husband binged this and now I am slowly making my way through this Korean fantasy anime. From CrunchyRoll:
“They say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but that’s not the case for the world’s weakest hunter Sung Jinwoo. After being brutally slaughtered by monsters in a high-ranking dungeon, Jinwoo came back with the System, a program only he could see, that’s leveling him up in every way. Now, he’s inspired to discover the secrets behind his powers and the dungeon that spawned them.”
Jinwoo transformation is incredible. Though he does not lose his recklessness, his intelligence really pays off. The show is gorey, humourous, heartwarming and funny. I am loving it!
Season 3 is scheduled for some time next year. There are graphic novels to read should you like to!
