Buddy Read of the Month

The Keeper of Magical Things by Julie Leong || October buddy read

The Keeper of Magical Things  by Julie Leong | Goodreads

A highly anticipated read of ours after absolutely loving the author’s other book, The Teller of Small Fortunes, it was really exciting to get to this book this month. Full of whimsy, charm, and cozy adventures, it was hard to put down.   – Ariel, Kriti.

An Unlikely Coven  by A.M. Kvita | Goodreads

An unexpected favorite of the month, I loved this witchy underdog tale where the main character faces up against her powerful family who’s looking out for their own self interests so that she can help the magical communities of this world. A fast paced urban fantasy with fae, vampires, and witches, I had a blast.

Noteworthy

The King Must Die by Kemi Ashing-Giwa | Goodreads

After randomly coming across this book on Netgalley, I was excited to give this standalone sci-fi fantasy a try. A perfect blend of worldbuilding, found family, and rebellion, I found myself looking forward to reading the next chapter each day I read this book!

Game

ritual of raven - game for October

Ritual of Raven– After loving this indie studio’s game, Sticky Business, I was happy to hear about the release of their next game, Ritual of Raven. It’s an adorable witchy fantasy cozy game where you play as a witch helping out other magical community members. Featuring cute pixel art and unique game mechanics, I’ve been having a great time playing this!

Always Remember: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, the Horse and the Storm by Charlie Mackesy | Goodreads

Reading Always Remember by Charlie Mackesy felt like a warm reminder to pause, breathe, and love myself through the hard moments. I thought about my new mom days a lot — how hard they were, and how well we did. Storms pass — but what stays is how we kept going, and who we became along the way. 💛And yes, I should have read it with cake. The mole would have approved. 🍰

My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult | Goodreads

While researching for my Jodi Picoult article (link below), I decided to reread My Sister’s Keeper after over a decade. Coming back to a book after so many life changes is nostalgic as well as telling how much I have changed. I haven’t found the time to get my thoughts together yet. It was still a great story and I cried at the end.

Anime

Spy x Family

I am enjoying this anime! It is light, at times silly, and always easy to return to.

From CrunchyRoll:

“World peace is at stake and secret agent Twilight must undergo his most difficult mission yet—pretend to be a family man. Posing as a loving husband and father, he’ll infiltrate an elite school to get close to a high-profile politician. He has the perfect cover, except his wife’s a deadly assassin and neither knows each other’s identity. But someone does, his adopted daughter who’s a telepath!”
